Personality;
Taranis is known, first and foremost, for being a particularly silent lion. When others come across him and realize he is not one for speaking, they often are put off or confused. Some outright think he is altogether mute and incapable of communication. However, this is all untrue. Taranis simply prefers to keep most things to himself or does not have much to say in the ways of communication to begin with. Due to his past, Taranis has learned that perhaps keeping silent is a way of survival. He is often seen simply wandering, doing his job, and living is daily life in complete silence. He does not make it a point to isolate others, however, and actually would prefer the company of lions compared to complete solitude. Despite being overly quiet, Taranis has his moments where he will open up and be social to others - as long as he feels utterly comfortable in their presence. If he does not know you, you may get a few one word answers or replies. if he trusts you, Taranis is seen to be completely normal.
He is not open with his past or his feelings much but is always respectful and friendly to others around him. He sees no point in being brash, rude, or dominant around others and is a sweet and tender lion under the surface. He works hard and is dedicated to his job - finally happy to have a purpose in life. While he does not enjoy his job as a warrior, killing other lions, he does not think twice about executing the act. He holds remorse afterwards and the life of a warrior actually takes a toll on him emotionally. Taranis actually is caring and compassionate, therefore all the destruction around him can be off-putting. He is a large brute who usually will put the lives of others and the greater good before his own. Taranis sees himself as a protector and is willing to put himself in harms way for the protection of someone he cares about. With cubs, Taranis feels at peace. He enjoys spending time with them and watching them grow, and with his adoptive sister Marella, enjoys telling her stories of the world he knew before the pride. Despite what others may think, smiling is not rare for Taranis and he loves living life and having a good time doing it.
History;
Taranis was not born a member of Aeon's or Ethereal's Pride. He was actually born and raised in the Unknown Lands as a nomad. Taranis was raised in the Ravine on the outskirts of Etheral's land and he, along with his other siblings, soon learned the harsh realities of life. They had the unfortunate luck of being born to a very cruel, sadistic, and overbearing father who made it his mission to make his children's lives a living hell. Their father never wanted children but saw it as an opportunity to raise warrior for the rebellion, to whom he sympathized with. He was hard on them from the very start and wanted to control every aspect of their lives, always feeding them lies and awful tales of the lands beyond their little pride. Even other members of their community shunned their family for the very nature of Taranis's father - assuming that he was a follower of Arknon and other rebellion lions. His mission for Taranis was to turn him into a bloodthirsty, silent, obedient follower who would obey anything on command. Taranis was taught at a young age that speaking ill or asking questions would earn him punishment. Taranis was often abused physically and emotionally, learning quickly to follow orders and not think of the consequences. Eventually, even speaking normally with other lions caused him to be scolded - meaning if he wanted to keep his life he would learn to say nothing at all. As Taranis grew he was becoming exactly what his father wanted - yet distrust and anger grew within him. The young lion, given the name the Silent Sentinel, was no longer content with his life. He had learned other tales of the Pride from other nomads, as he was always listening to them in his past times, and knew that this was not the only life he could have. Taranis quickly abandoned his life with his family as he entered into adulthood, leaving it all behind in search of something more. He was never cruel at heart and finally earned the peace he sought his entire life when he entered into the Pride. While still rather quiet and timid in nature, Taranis began to make friends and a new life for himself, refusing to look back towards the old life he knew.
Upon entering the pride, Taranis used his skills to become a Base Warrior: Fighter. Though distant at first, as the years went on he managed to open up more about himself and his past to those willing to listen. He even took in Lake Cub Marella as his adoptive little sister after Kimba and Mirrah had their own litter of cubs. Taranis would do anything for his little sister and has even put of having a family of his own in order to keep an eye on her and keep her happy. Taranis seems to be putting her own happiness before his own but is hesitant to let someone potentially come between them, even if he seeks the comfort of another in a romantic aspect.
